Item upgrades are a common and essential way to boost the performance of many items in Path of Exile. They can also provide additional damage, AD or even affixes.

Armor

However, it's important to note that this will also increase its weight, which will cause it to be heavier than before.

There are a few different kinds of armor upgrades available in the game, and each one has distinct effects. For example, some upgrades will grant the armor a certain number of health points while others will make it lighter and stronger. The name of the armor upgrade will indicate the type of upgrade the item upgrader can receive, as shown below.

Certain upgrades require magic or a combination of technology and magic, as identified by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table below. Some upgrades also require a fee to use, and are shown by a "Charges" entry in the table below. The charges for these upgrades change daily or never expire dependent on the upgrade.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades allow players to improve the effectiveness of certain aspects of the weapon. Upgrades can boost the accuracy of a rifle, or the damage that shotgun shells cause. Certain firearms also have enhancements that enhance their intrinsic qualities. Jewels

All kinds of jewels can be crafted at the Jeweler however, there are some exceptions to this, such as the rare and legendary gems that require you to be at a high enough level to qualify for the privilege of having them. In contrast to other upgrade components, jewels can be swapped with a jewel of the same kind without destroying the original one. You can only replace the jewel once within an item upgrade of equipment.

It is normal to use more gems for aesthetic reasons. The jewels also improve performance and make a harder surface than steel so that repeated friction from pivots do not cause damage to the movement.

A Glyphmaster can provide glyphs that can enhance the look of your shields and weapons. These are a small perk and are able to be swapped easily, but are not guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs, like jewelry, can be upgraded by the Jeweler in exchange for gold and Scattered Crystals. Glyphs can also be taken out and returned to the inventory. Trinkets

Trinkets can give your character many small, but beneficial, benefits. You can find them in the start-up area as rewards for personal stories or loot. They can also be obtained from vendors and by doing road interaction. They can also be found on the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.

The first trinket that a player will be able to unlock is the cloak. It provides a tiny but beneficial boost in speed of movement and the ability to evade. Then, they can purchase amulets, rings and necklaces in the same fashion to how the player can acquire weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment has a slot for an upgrade which can be universal or jewel. Universal upgrades are smaller and can be utilized on any piece of equipment.
